My Country 'Tis of Thee...

Last week in school Brady learned about the presidents and focused on Abraham Lincoln. He knew a lot of facts about the 16th president. He also knew that "Abraham Lincoln believed the same thing as Martin Luther King"...though he sometimes had a hard time explaining what that really meant.

Since Brady is an only child, we are easily able to reinforce what he is learning in school with small daytrips to local historical sites. On Sunday we trekked out to D.C. to visit the Lincoln Memorial. Though it was impressive for the first few seconds, Brady quickly noticed that it was only a big statue...and that was it. He saw it and he was done...been there, done that!
An added bonus to our trip downtown was that the reflecting pool was frozen over! We have never seen this before in all our years living here! It was so cool to see people walking ON the reflecting pool (though probably not too safe).
So, of course, we joined them!
When we got to the other end of the reflecting pool we walked through the WWII memorial. It was nice that Grandma and Papa Busche could come with us on our trip!
...it was a long walk back to the Lincoln Memorial, and eventually the car...it's hard to wear out a 5 year old, but I think that we did a pretty good job!
