Geocaching

The Blivens have found a new family sport...geocaching! It is like a huge scavenger hunt using your GPS system. You can check out more about geocaching at http://www.geocaching.com/. At first we had a hard time finding the caches, but once we got the hang of it we did amazing. I am totally hooked! We spent a few hours in the morning and then a few more with grandma and papa in the evening. It has taken us to quite a few new scenic places and parks.

Brady created his own map and brought along his treasure chest in case any of the caches had some loot in them! "Brady's Booty" box is what inspired our geocaching group name - "Booty Trackers"

Our first stop was a this war memorial in the middle of old town Walkersville. No luck the first time.
Then we headed off to Fountain Rock Park for the "Cave Man's Home"...we totally thought that we could get this one...in a "cave" next to the parking lot...we thought that for sure it was the storm drain...strike two!
...but we did stop to play in the park for a while before heading off to our next point.
Our first find! It was in the lamp post in the Discovery Shopping Center. We were so excited to find something...now we had an idea of what we were looking for.
We signed the log "3/31 - Booty Trackers First Cache!"
Then we headed down to the creek in Dearbought to try to find the "Gone Fishin'" cache...no luck. We spent a long time down here looking, and we all got a little hot and tired. Next time we will have to bring snacks and drinks. We left empty handed.
Off to our next stop, the Giant grocery store parking lot where we found another cache in the lamppost! Well, we're good at finding these at least! Second cache of the day!
Then Grandma and Papa Busche came hunting with us. They were definitely our good luck charms. If you look closely, you can see where the cache is hidden in this rock. This one had a good clue...a tree growing out of the rock. Cache #3!
We found the next one too! In the corner of Heritage Park. This one and the previous one both had goodies in them, so Brady got to trade some of his "booty".
...and, of course, we stopped at the park!
We then headed back to where we started this morning to see if we had any more luck now that we knew what we were doing. We headed back to the war memorial and guess what...we found it! This one was super tricky, but Brad knew exactly where to look this time.
Then we headed back to "Cave Man's House" and found this one. Really...we are good. Who would have ever guessed that these little things were everywhere?!?!? We have had so much fun with our geocaching and plan to continue our new treasure hunting hobby!
